at this court appears to homage that Math Newman a customary tenant of this manor 20.9.1717 surrendered by rod into hand of lord by hand of Solomon Grimston gentleman in place of the bailiff in presence of Hen Adams senior and Jn Pratt two customary tenants etc all that messuage or tenement and seven crofts land parcel Bowerfeild containing by estimation 20a more or less and 3a land more or less with appurtenances called Spard Pasture which premises were once in tenure Dan Rogers and also all that croft land called Bowerfeild containing by estimation 6a now called Holden Feild which premises were all in tenure then of Hen Jervis or assigns and held of this manor by copy of court roll to separate uses in that surrender and redemption mentioned viz to use of said Math Newman and his heirs until the marriage arrangement then set up and intended to be solemnised between said Math Newman and Margt Newton spinster was solemnised and after the solemnisation of it to the use of Math and his assigns for life and after his death to use of Margt for her life and after her death if she survives him then to heirs of Math legally procreated on body of said Margt and if said Math is survivor then to the use of heirs of Margt by Math legally procreated and for defect of such heirs then to the use of right heirs of Math Newman forever thereupon the said Math Newman and Margt his wife present here in court humbly petition etc admitted to premises according to tenor of said surrender and are admitted tenants thereof
