to this court came Robt Clerke and Eliz his wife late the wife of Lewes Jegon in their proper persons and the same Eliz being by the lord's steward alone examined surrendered into the lord's hands by the hands of the said steward for certain causes them moving one cottage with a garden adjoining with appurtenances which they hold of the lord by copy for term of the life of the same Eliz by right of accruing by and after the death of the said Lewis as appears in the court with the leet of the 17Eliz1 and which the same Lewis took to him and his heirs by copy of the surrender of Robt Upcher of Much Tey and sometime were of Jn Lavenham since of Robt Garnon and late of Agnes Ridsuale widow as appears in the court with the leet of 37Hen8 and the same Lewis afterwards surrendered the premises and took the same again together with Alice his wife and the heirs of the same Lewis as appeareth in the court with the leet of 38Hen8 to the use and behoof of Symon Greene and Margt his wife the daughter of Geo Potter for term of the life of the said Eliz to hold of the lord by the rod to the will of the lord according to the custom of the manor and by fealty suit of court and rent of 6d by the year and also renting to the said Eliz during the whole life of the said Eliz a certain yearly rent of 15s of lawful money etc at annunciation and stjn michaelmas and xmas by even portions in the porch of Earls Colne aforesaid the first payment thereof beginning at that feast of the feasts aforesaid which shall first happen after that the same Robt and Eliz shall yield up the possession thereof to the said Simon and Margt and if it shall happen the said yearly rent of 15s to be behind in part or in all after any of the said feasts in which as is aforesaid it ought to be paid by the space of 7days that then it shall be lawful for the said Robt and Eliz unto the foresaid cottage and garden with appurtenances to enter and there to distrain and the distresses there so found and taken to lead bear and carry away the same to impound and detain until the same Robt and Eliz shall be fully satisfied paid and contented of the said rent of 15s and the arrearages thereof if any shall be and hereupon here to this court came the foresaid Symon and Margt in their own proper persons and pray themselves to be admitted to the cottage and garden aforesaid with appurtenances according to the tenor of the surrender aforesaid and because it appeareth to the court here that their claim is true therefore the lord by his steward aforesaid delivered to the same Simon and Margt seisin of the premises with appurtenances by the rod to hold to them and their assigns during all the life of the said Eliz to hold by the services aforesaid and also renting to the foresaid Robt and Eliz during all the life of the said Eliz the said yearly rent charge of 15s of lawful money etc at the same terms by equal portions at the place aforesaid with a clause of distress for not payment of the same rent as is above limited and hereupon the said Simon and Margt for such their estate abovesaid made fine and fealty with the lord and so they are admi tted the lord's tenants in form aforesaid and whereas also it appeareth in the court with the leet of this manor here holden in 20Eliz1 that the same Lewis and Eliz then his wife did hold the premises jointly for term of their lives and the remainder after their decease unto one Jn Jegon son of the said Lewis and his heirs so it appeareth in the court here holden the 11.4.17Eliz1 that the same Lewis and Eliz so being seised the same Lewis died and the said Eliz survived him and the same Jn was admitted to the remainder of the premises and afterwards at the same court surrendered his remainder aforesaid to the use and behoof of Edm Potter his heirs and assigns who at the same court was admitted the lord's tenant thereof and now it is found by the homage of this court that the same Edm out of this court and since the last court viz 20.10.1589 did surrender into the lord's hands by the hands of Edw Reade the bailiff in the presence of Wm Catte and Robt Reade customary tenants of this manor the same witnessing all the premises with appurtenances to the use and behoof of the foresaid Margt his sister and her heirs to whom by the lord's steward there is seisin thereof delivered by the rod to have to her and her heirs to hold of the lord by the rod to the will of the lord according to the custom of the manor and by fealty suit of court and rent of 6d by the year and by all other customs rents and services therefore before due and of right accustomed and for having such her estate herein she made fine and fealty with the lord and she is admitted the lord's tenant in form aforesaid
