fine 3li6s8dwhereas at the court with the leet here holden on tuesday being the 8.7.15Eliz1 Hen Smithe was admitted the lord's tenant to him and his heirs to one croft enclosed containing by estimation in all 3a3r parcel of a croft of land called Berecroft containing in the whole by estimation 6a of land the foresaid parcel lying between the land of Robt Allen called Berecroft on the one part towards the west and the land of Lewes Jegon late parcel of the said croft called Berecroft of the other part towards the east one head thereof abutting the lane called Berecroft Lane towards the south the other head abutting upon the garden of Wm Holden towards the north as by meets and bounds appeareth etc now the homage aforesaid present that since the last court and out of this court viz 15.5.35Eliz1 etc the foresaid Hen Smithe surrendered into the lord's hands by the hands of Edw Reade instead of the bailiff in the presence of Jn Churche and Robt Reade two customary tenants of this manor the same witnessing according to the custom of the manor aforesaid the foresaid croft of land containing by estimation 3a3r of and more or less with appurtenances to the use and behoof of Robt Knight and his heirs for ever upon condition that the foresaid Robt Knight or his assigns pay or cause to be paid to the foresaid Hen Smithe or his assigns the sum of 30li of good money etc upon michaelmas which shall be in 1594 at or within the now dwelling house of the said Jn Churche situate in Colne aforesaid between the hours of one and three o'clock in the afternoon of the same day whereupon now came the foresaid Robt Knight and humbly prayed to be admitted the lord's tenant of the premises to whom there is seisin thereof delivered to have and to hold to him and his heirs upon the condition aforesaid of the lord by the rod to the will of the lord according to the custom of the manor by the rents services and customs therefore due and of right accustomed and he made fine and fealty and is admitted tenant thereof etc
